Winners!
          RLC members and friends participated in - and won - dozens of federal, state, and local election campaigns across the nation last week.
          Many were candidates for the first time, laying the groundwork for future electoral opportunities and developing skills that can be applied in the pursuit of liberty.

Maine

   R. Kenneth Lindell - 41st State House: 51%
  
[RLC123] Ken is the Maine RLC Coordinator and an active participant in local and state GOP activities. He was elected as a delegate to the recent state convention, but this is his first run for public office in the Frankfort area. "I'm happy that my campaign will serve as a catalyst for organizing an active Liberty Caucus here in Maine."

   Matt Gagnon - 14th State House: 34%
  
[RLC1] Matt is a new member, active as the Chairman University of Maine College Republicans for two years and the Recruitment Director for Maine College Republicans. This is his first campaign for public office, in the Old Town area.
"I consider myself a strongly libertarian minded Republican and have observed that most of the Republicans of my generation lean more toward liberty."

New Hampshire

   With the energentic guidance of RLC Assistant Chapter Director Tim Condon, liberty minded state legislators have indicated their support for the RLC and the Free State Project in New Hampshire. Aside from the narrow loss of Governor Craig Benson, many RLC friends won re-election in multi-seat districts:

   Richard Kennedy - 4th State House: 17%
   [RLC4] Rep. "Stretch" Kennedy won one of the three seats in this district. He was rated 94% in House by the independent NH Liberty Index.

   Albert Bicknell - 1st State House: 19%

Rep."Bick" Bicknell was among the top vote-getters in this multi-seat race. He was rated 78% by the independent NH Freedom Index, with other leading representatives Harriett Cady, Dick Marple, and Ed Nutter, who each won re-election.

   U.S. Sen. John Sununu, endorsed by the RLC in 2002 and earning an 89.6% rating in the 2004 RLC Liberty Index, was not up for election this year.

New York

  State Rep. Howard Mills - U.S. Senate: 25%
   [RLC23] Mills was designated a "sacrificial lamb" by the state party in his contest against incumbent Chuck Shumer. Mills and primary contender Michael Benjamin both signed the RLC Liberty Compact and sought RLC endorsement.
   State Coordinator Stu Mirsky will be working with both men to develop the RLC in New York.

   Warren Redlich - 21st CD: 30%
  
[RLC3] This was Warren's first outing.
 

Indiana

   Andrew Horning - 7th Congressional: 44%
  
[RLC123] Andy took on incumbent Democrat Julia Carson for the second time, with a very strong showing as a GOP candidate. He won 2% of the vote in the same district as a Libertarian Party  candidate in 2002. He ran for governor in 2000; Indianapolis mayor in 1999; Marion County recorder in 1998; and State Representative in 1996. Many voters told him that they wished they could vote for him: as a Republican. "They couldn't come to me (as an LP candidate) so I'm coming to them''

    Paul Hager - 24th State House: 35%

Paul won 2% of the vote in his 2000 run for Indiana U.S. Senate as an LP candidate. This is his first contest as a Republican, challenging Democrat incumbent Peggy Welch. He is Secretary of the RLC Indiana, working with Chairman Gregory Puls to develop a broad coalition within the Indiana GOP.

Michigan

    Rep. Leon Drolet - 33rd State House: 62%

Leon held his seat for a third term and worked on the Michigan Racial Privacy Initiative, endorsed and supported by the RLC.

    Rep. Jack Brandenburg - 24th State House: 63%
   
[RLC2] Brandenburg won re-election and also served as Co-Chairman with Drolet on the initiative effort.

    RLC-MI Chairman Mike Hewitt and member Diane Carey lost strong primary campaigns for State House nominations.
 

Minnesota

    Andy Lindberg - 61B State House: 13%
    [RLC123] RLC Minnesota Chairman Lindberg was selected as a 'sacrificial lamb' against Democrat incumbent Norm Walker, giving him an opportunity to develop new contacts and prospects for the recently Chartered RLC-MN. He is Vice Chairman of a 61st Senate District Committee and was a delegate to both the 5th Congressional District and State GOP Conventions.

    Georgia Republicans completed their shocking two-year takeover of state government Tuesday when they seized control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 130 years.

Although Thune had good ratings in the RLC Liberty Index, he didn't earn an RLC endorsement. Nevertheless, he defeated Democratic Leader Tom Daschle, who has rated at the bottom of our index, as an 'Authoritarian' for more than a decade. RLC Contact Russell Means was very active in Thune's campaign.
    Tom Coburn - U.S. Senate Oklahoma:
53%
    [RLC4] Coburn slipped under our endorsement radar, but has had consistently top ratings in our Liberty Index for his years in the House. Several RLC members assisted in his tight race for the Senate seat.
